Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations show the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important political figure stated the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
